'LES'
The LibSyn Estimated Subscribers is an algorithmically derived number that for most users will represent the actual number of unique downloads. This number will generally be larger than the “Unique IP” number, because different listeners may be behind a single IP address (AOL or other corporate proxies, for example), but will be lower than “Total Downloads” because for various reasons the same person may download a file more than once (lost connection, etc.).
'Total Downloads'
This represents the total number of http requests for a file. This is generally not the best number to look at as for many reasons, people may require more than one http request to successfully transfer the file. Still, many people like to see this number, so we provide it.
'Unique IP'
This represents downloads from any unique ip address in a given 24 hour period. Unique IP has been an industry standard way of avoiding the problems with total download numbers, but tends to lowball your actual listenership because unique IP addresses are no longer a good indicator of unique listeners. Large corporate proxy servers, such as used by AOL and most corporate access points, can front for thousands and thousands of computers behind the company firewall.
'Syndicated' or 'Podcatcher'
The term 'syndicated' or 'podcatcher' – used in different places on the stats panel, has the same meaning as subscribers, above. It refers to specific downloads to clients that use automatic retrieval, as opposed to clients (such as Netscape, Mozilla, Safari, etc.) which require the user to click on a link.
You have the option to download a CSV with the numbers for each episode. Below is the headings used and what they mean. * FILE NAME- file name * PUB DATE - publish date * ALL DL SYND- all downloads syndicated (from subscriptions) * ALL DL DIR- all downloads direct (web downloads) * UNIQUE DL SYND downloads syndicated to unique ip addresses (through subscriptions) * UNIQUE DL DIR web downloads to unique ip addresses * LES DL SYND libsyn estimated downloads through subscribers * LES DL DIR libsyn estimated webdownloads downloads
